Eagles Spotlight On – Eagles Winter Training Programs

You know you’re serious about baseball when the calendar hits December…and you start training for the following spring.

Eagles Baseball 2014 Winter TrainingProfessional Baseball Instruction‘s Winter Training Programs have started with an emphasis on getting Eagles Baseball players ready for spring 2015.

Our “spring training” approach starts allows players to gradually improve their skills over the course of the winter months using proven training methods designed by PBI’s Major League Advisors such as Clint Hurdle, Leo Mazzone, and Sam Perlozzo.

Eagles Baseball 2014 Winter Training

The Junior Winter Training Program is the signature off-season training program for 11 and 12-year old Eagles players on the 50/70 field, keying extensively on the fundamental skills needed for the more advanced 50/70 game.

The Senior Winter Training Program is for 13 and 14-year old Eagles players on the 60/90 field with an emphasis on getting players prepared for playing in high school.

Eagles Baseball 2014 Winter TrainingBoth programs prepare you for your upcoming season just as the pros do through our “spring training” approach over the course of 3 months – sixteen 2 ¼-hour workout sessions. That’s 36 total hours of preparation for your upcoming season.

Eagles Spotlight On – Andrew Meisner

14U Eagles pitcher Andrew Meisner

14U Eagles pitcher Andrew Meisner

14U Eagles player Andrew Meisner finished up his 2014 fall season with a flourish. One of the team’s top pitchers the previous three seasons, Andrew settled into a very strong groove down the stretch as the Eagles secured the #2 seed in the 2014 fall season of the PBI Baseball League.

In his last three appearances, Andrew tossed 15 innings allowing just two runs. The highlight was a 4-0 shutout against a tough Rutherford Dawgs team on the final day of the regular season. He held the Dawgs to just four hits while striking out eight and walking only one.

In the championship game against the Northern Valley Coyotes, Andrew threw four shutout innings.

His bat was strong too, with eight hits in his final ten at bats over the regular season and playoffs.

Eagles Spotlight On – Dylan Santos

Santos pic10U Eagles shortstop Dylan Santos, who’s been shining on defense already this fall, has made his presence known with his bat, too.

On Sunday October 5th against Teaneck, Dylan slammed his first career over-the-fence home run in the bottom half of the first inning with one out and a runner on second to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. He ended the day (doubleheader) going 4-6 with the home run, 3 singles and 4 runs batted in. He also had a pair of walks and a three stolen bases.

All in all, a very nice afternoon for Dylan!

Eagles Spotlight On – Matthew Monaghan

13U Eagle Matthew MonaghanOn Sunday April 27, 13U Eagle Matthew Monaghan retired the first 13 batters he faced before giving up a hit against the Bergenfield Bears at Overpeck County Park in Ridgefield Park, NJ.

He ultimately threw a 3-hit, 7-inning complete-game shutout striking out 6 and walking only 3 in the Eagles 3-0 win. Only 6 balls left the infield.

Matt holds the distinction of being the first Eagles player to hit a home run at Cooperstown Dreams Park (2013) and he is the current longest-tenured player in the Eagles Baseball program. A member of the first Eagles 8U team while still only 7, Matthew has played all nine positions on the field during his Eagles career.

Eagles Spotlight On – Frank Spano

14U Eagle Frank SpanoFrank Spano came to the Eagles program a couple of years ago and impressed the coaches with his pitching, hitting and fielding abilities. A left-handed pitcher, he possesses a plus fastball and hits for power and average from the left side.

Currently playing on our 14U Red team, Frank tossed a no-hitter on April 19th against the Staten Island Orioles at New Dorp High School. He struck out 11 batters and only two balls were put into play in the 5-inning mercy rule win.

A current eighth grader, Frank will be attending Seton Hall Prep in the fall.

Eagles Spotlight On – Kevin Ferguson

Kevin Ferguson joined Eagles Baseball as a player when he was just 11 years old. Following a stellar high school career at St. Joseph’s Regional High School in Montvale, and playing on the college level at Northeastern University, Kevin was signed by the Houston Astros and is currently in their extended spring training.

Check out this footage of Kevin throwing a bullpen this winter at Professional Baseball Instruction.

Kevin also worked with our current Eagles players this past winter as an instructor at PBI.
